Introduction

The Compaq Console Management Controller (CMC) is a key component for intelligent rack environmental monitoring and controlling. The Compaq Console Management Controller and associated options can be used for the monitoring and controlling of the environment within a single rack or two-rack suite. This includes control of sensors/alarms including temperature, humidity, smoke, vibration, security and rack fan controls within the base model and additional sensors and locking capabilities with the options.
The Compaq Console Management Controller is a 1U device and ships standard with Compaq Intelligent Rack Manager Lite (CIRaM Lite) software. This easy to use software program allows the user to monitor and manage the rack environment via Internet Explorer. CIRaM Lite has the following capabilities:

  • Configuring the CMC
  • ·Monitoring input voltage, temperature (up to two), humidity, smoke, mechanical shock/vibration or intrusion sensors
  • Activating relay controls
  • Logging all events
  • Activating and monitoring up to two rack fan arrays
  • Sending a Windows message, email message or pager notification

Target Applications and Markets

Network Administrators, System Administrators, Engineering Managers, Chief Information Officers, and Managers of Information Systems are all among the users who will see very tangible benefits from using the Compaq console management controllers.

Features

The following are some of the features found in the base Console Management Controller (CMC)

  • 1U design and installation in standard 19" racks
  • Ethernet communications port for data exchange with a host computer
  • Four analog inputs: two temperature inputs, one humidity input and one voltage monitor for AC mains
  • Two programmable fan output power controls
  • Eight discrete inputs: four intrusion inputs, one smoke input, one mechanical shock/vibration input and two Aux. ports
  • Two discrete inputs/outputs (for future use)
  • Easy configuration via: the Intelligent Rack Manager Lite software, serial port on front panel, SNMP - TCP/IP, use inputs on front panel
  • Audible and visual alarm indicators
  • Monitoring of up to two racks
  • Two user programmable alarm outputs, for rotating lights or other alarm devices (not included)

  • Facilitates unattended remote monitoring and controlling as well as on-site monitoring and controlling
  • Notification of problems via SNMP to paging or e-mail systems
  • Ability to install external alarms for notification of problems
  • Supports state-of-the-art technology in the dense rack-mount product space
  • Easy to use software package
  • Reduced data center costs from efficient use of fans by turning them off when not needed

Models - Additional Information Console Management Controller (CMC) Base Option Kit
The base model CMC kit contains 1 temperature sensor, 2 intrusion alert sensors, and a voltage monitor*.
203039-B21
*The CMC will display the voltage of the source connected to its AC input labeled "Voltage Monitor/Fan Input." (NOTE: This input is separate from the CMC main power input). If no voltage is applied to the Voltage Monitor/Fan Input, the console display will have the voltage graphic greyed out and will read OV. Alerts can be programmed to indicate that the AC voltage is over or under the acceptable voltage range as specified by the user.
Console Management Controller (CMC) Sensors Option Kit
This option kit can be purchased for additional sensors to be used with the base CMC kit. The sensor option kit contains 1 temperature sensor, 1 vibration sensor, 1 humidity sensor and 2 intrusion alert sensors.

Console Management Controller (CMC) Locking Option Kit
This option kit can be purchased for additional capability of locking to be used with the base CMC kit. The locking option kit allows authorized on-site personnel to be granted access to racks by having the ability to lock and unlock racks remotely. The kit contains hardware to be mounted on the front and rear doors and a motor with a power supply to allow for access to the racked equipment even when there is no power to the CMC or kit.
