Introduction: DLTtools is a program that gives the user ability to manage internal working of the DLT tape drive. It is used to update the drive firmware, run diagnostic, view or alter various parameters and data of a SCSI DLT Tape Drive device. Functions also include mode page editing and log page viewing. This release of the package moves DLTtools program to version 4.14c. DLTdiag remains at version 1.05. This version of DLTtools supersedes all other earlier versions. Build date: Wednesday, January 05, 2000 Software Release Identification: This revision of DLTtools can be identified four ways. 1. The distribution file name. (see section on distribution) 2. The disclaimer screen at the start of the program. 3. The menu services of the program under "information/About DLTtools" 4. Scanning the executable for the key word "PGMREV". The revision and build date strings follow it. CHANGES: 1. Buffer Mode Bug: When buffer mode is set using a mode page edit function followed by a change to an EEROM value, the program will clear the buffer mode setting. FIX: Code changes to retrieve the buffer mode setting and add its setting to EEROM update commands. 2. Build Update Tapes Bug: DLT8000 could not build DLT7000 update tapes when using DLTtape IV media because the program would leave the density in default density. FIX: Function was rewritten to use DLT4000 density when a DLTtape IV media is found. 3. Control Menu Removed: Due to the changes to the build update tape function the control menu was removed and the remaining function "Dump file size" was moved under the main function menu. KNOWN ANOMALIES: 1. Data displayed by DLTtools caterers to the Quantum's version of DLT firmware. Other flavors of DLT may not match information and cause the information to be incorrectly displayed or labeled. 2. The link between DLTtools and DLTdiag under the "function" menu may not work in all cases. When this happens, either the paths are not setup or the function call execl is not supported. In either case the program DLTdiag.exe will need to be run directory. 3. As with the link to DLTdiag.exe the link to CL_HELP.exe may not work in all cases. When this happens, either the paths are not setup or the function call execl is not supported. In either case the program CL_help.exe will need to be run directory. 4. The "Store" function does not write a header about the data it is putting on tape. Therefor, in order to "Retrieve" the file with the right size, the user must input the correct number of bytes for the file size. If the byte count given is smaller then that on the tape the file will be truncated. If the number is too large the resulting file will have more data at the end then the original file. DISTRIBUTION: Because there are multiple files to the package, the distribution package is a self-extracting program file. This main package may be re-distributed but not its parts. To expand the package copy the file to a directory on the system you will be using it on. Run the program. Links or Icons can be made to run the program from the system windows or menus.
