WLAN General Settings

You configure wireless local area network (WLAN) access from this page. To activate configuration changes that you make, you must click Wireless > Activate Changes (in the left navigation pane after you apply the changes).

Note: When you click Activate Changes, the security device ends all wireless sessions. Wireless users must reconnect to the security device to continue wireless service.

  1. To configure general wireless options, select or check the following:

Regulatory Domain (not configurable): Regulatory domain for the security device. There are three preset domains: FCC (USA), TELEC (Japan), and WORLD (all countries).

Country Code: If your regulatory domain is WORLD, select the country in which the security device is operating. If your regulatory domain is FCC or TELEC, you cannot specify a country

Antenna Diversity: Antenna A or antenna B, whichever has the stronger signal, is used when diversity (default) is selected. To use an external unidirectional antenna, you can specify antenna A or antenna B (labeled on the security device).

Operation Mode: You can enable exclusively 802.11b or 802.11g,  both 802.11b and 802.11g, or turbo mode.

Channel: You can select auto (default), which enables the security device to select a channel, or you can set a channel between 1 and 11.

Extended Channel Mode: For regulatory domains that allow extended channel mode, you can enable the security device to use channels 12 and 13.

XR Support: You can enable XR (eXtended Range), which provides increased coverage at a lower data transmission rate. By default, this option is disabled.

Super-G Mode: You can enable Super G, which can increase user data throughput rate up to 4 Mbps for 802.11g clients. By default, this option is disabled.

Current Channel (not configurable): You can view the channel that the security device is currently configured to use.

Transmit Power: You can select a transmit power to be Full, Half, Quarter, Eighth, or Minimum (of maximum transmit power, whose value varies, depending on the country in which the security device is located).

Transmit Data Rate: You can specify the minimum data transmit rate in Mbps. The available data transmit rates depend on the radio type. By default, this option is set to auto, which uses the best rate first and then automatically falls back to the next rate if transmission fails.

MAC Address Access Control: Specify which wireless clients have access to the network through an access control list (ACL). The ACL identifies clients by their MAC addresses and specifies whether the wireless device allows or denies access for each address. You can set the device to operate in one of three ACL modes:

  1. Click Apply, and then after you finish making changes to the entire WLAN configuration, click Activate Changes.
