Web Filtering - Custom Category Configuration

You can group URLs and create categories specific to your needs. You can include up to 20 URLs in each category.

Note: Custom categories affect integrated web filtering only.

To create a custom category:

  1. Enter the following information.

Category Name: Enter a name that identifies the category you are creating.

URL: Enter either the URL or IP address of the site you are adding to this category. When you add a URL to a user-defined category, the security device performs a Domain Name Server (DNS) lookup, then resolves the host name into IP addresses and caches this information. Therefore, when a user tries to access a site by typing the IP address of the site, the security device checks the cached list of IP addresses and tries to resolve the host name.

Many sites have dynamic IP addresses, meaning their addresses change periodically. A user attempting to access a site can type an IP address that is not in the cached list on the security device. Therefore, if you know the IP address(es) of sites you are adding to a category, enter both its URL and its IP address(es).

  1. Click Apply to save the configuration and add another URL or IP address to the list. Click OK to save the configuration and return to the URL Filtering - Custom List.
