Sun RPC Configuration

Service Name is the name you give to one or more predefined Sun RPC services, or services you define. You associate predefined or defined services to the Service Name you set on the Juniper NetScreen device by defining Rules. Rules identify services by Program ID.

For example, you might create a new service that includes all the predefined services from Program ID 100001 through 100021. In that case, 100001 would be the Program ID Low and 100021 would be the Program ID High for that rule.

To create a rule with just one service, for example SUN-RPC-PORTMAPPER (Program ID 100000), both the Program ID Low and the Program ID High must be 100000.

Some services have more than one Program ID associated with them. SUN-RPC-NFS, for example, is identified by Program IDs 100005 and 100227. Because these are separate Program IDs and not a range, SUN-RPC-NFS is identified by two rules. One rule must have 100005 as both the Program ID Low and Program ID High, and another rule must have 100227 as both the Program ID Low and Program ID High.
