Action Group Configuration

To create a new action group for Policy-Based Routing (PBR), enter the following information in the corresponding fields and click OK:

At the time of configuration you assign a sequence number. The sequence number indicates the order in which you want the action group entry processed.

Each action group can have multiple action order in which an action is applied.

Interface and Next Hop Reachability

Note: PBR reachability monitoring is not the same as Layer 2 Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) lookup or Layer 3 tracking.

When you create an action group, the interface or next hop is monitored for reachability as follows:

If an action-group entry is configured with only a next interface, reachability is based on the link state. If the action group is configured only with a next-hop, that next-hop must be reachable through a route entry in the destination router’s routing table.

If the next interface is up, the solution is considered reachable. Any interface, including logical interfaces such as tunnel, aggregate or redundant, that are visible in the VR in which the policy is configured are candidates for a next interface. If the policy is configured with a NULL interface, the solution is always reachable. As a result, PBR route lookup always succeeds with finding a valid forwarding solution configured with a NULL interface, so route lookup does not continue, and the packet is dropped.

The configured next hop is reachable as long as a valid route exists in the destination router’s routing table to resolve the next hop.

If both next-interface and next-hop reachability are configured the configured next hop must be reachable through the configured next-interface. If the next hop is reachable through the next interface, the solution is considered reachable.
