OSPF Area Type

OSPF allows networks to be grouped together logically or geographically by the use of areas. Areas reduce the amount of routing information exchanged throughout the network. In addition to the normal OSPF area, you can configure the following types of areas:

Stub Area: An area that receives route summaries from the backbone, but does not receive link-state advertisements from other areas for routes learned through non-OSPF sources.

NSSA: Similar to a stub area, except that a Not So Stubby Area (NSSA) can receive external routes learned within the area. NSSAs do not receive external routes from other areas.

To Modify an Area's Type

From the Area Type drop-down list, select one of the following: normal, stub, or nssa. Click OK to save the configuration.
