BGP Neighbor Configuration

The Virtual Router (BGP) – BGP Neighbor Setting page enables you to configure settings that indicate how the current BGP routing instance interacts with its BGP peer.

To Configure a BGP Peer

  1. Enter the necessary information:

EBGPMultihop: Select Enable to connect to the peer through multiple, intervening routing nodes. Enter the number of hops for the connection.

Keep Alive: Specifies the number of seconds between keepalive packet transmissions sent by the BGP routing instance to its peer.Select one of the following:

Use node default: Sets the keepalive transmission interval to 1/3 of the hold time value.

Custom: Sets the keepalive transmission interval to the value entered.

Peer Authentication: Select Enable to enable Message Digest version 5 (MD5) authentication for the peer. Enter the MD5 password.

MED: Enter the value that indicates the preference for entry into the AS. The lower the MED value, the higher the priority of the link.

Send default route to peer: Select this option to send the routes with  the 0.0.0.0 prefix to the peer.

Ignore default route from peer: Select this option to ignore routes with the 0.0.0.0 prefix sent from the peer.

Self as next hop: Select this option to indicate that the next hop value is the local BGP virtual routing instance.

Send Community: Select this option to send the community to the peer.

Force Reconnect: Select this option to cause the peer to drop the existing BGP connection and accept a new connection.

Hold Time: Select Enable to specify the maximum number of seconds that may elapse between the receipt of successive KEEPALIVE and/or UPDATE messages by the local BGP routing instance or its neighbor. Enter the maximum number of seconds.

Weight: Indicates the priority of the path between the local BGP virtual routing instance and its neighbor. The higher the value, the greater priority the path has.

Route Map: From the drop-down lists, select previously-configured route-maps for incoming or outgoing exchanges with the peer.

Peer Enabled: Select this option to enable the peer connection.

  1. Click OK to save the configuration. Click Apply to continue configuring peer settings.
