Self Log

ScreenOS provides a Self Log to monitor and record all packets terminated at the NetScreen device. The Self Log contains a table displaying the following information:

Date/Time: Indicates the date and time when the packet was dropped.

Source Address/Port: Indicates the source IP address and port number from which the dropped packet originated.

Destination Address/Port: Indicates the destination IP address and port number of the dropped packet.

Duration: Indicates the time, in seconds, between the start and end of the session for the packet (for dropped packets in the Self Log, this is always 0).

Service: Indicates the Type of Service (ToS) associated with the dropped packet.

Viewing the Self Log

Saving the Self Log to Another Location

You can save the log to your local hard drive or to a directory on your local area network for later viewing and analysis.

To save the Self Log to another location

  1. Click Save.

The File Download dialog box appears and prompts you to open the file or save it to your computer.

  1. Click Save.

The Save As dialog box appears.

  1. Navigate to the location where you want to save the file, and then click Save.

You can use an ASCII text editor (such as NotePad or WordPad) to view the saved file.
