To create a RIP routing instance, you must have an interface configured on your device. An interface is a connection from the device to the network that can be addressed. The interface you need to configure for a RIP routing instance to be created is a physical port on a NetScreen device.
On the Interface (RIP) Page, enter the necessary information:
RIP Instance: Select this option to create a RIP instance for this interface. You can create and configure a RIP instance without enabling RIP on the interface.
Protocol RIP: Select this option to enable RIP on the interface.
Demand Circuit: Select this option to configure the interface as a demand circuit.
Summarization: Select this option to enable route summaries to be sent on this interface.
Update Version: Configures the RIP protocol version for sending or receiving updates on the interface. This configuration overrides the protocol version configured for RIP in the virtual router.
Metric: Enter the metric for this interface (a value between 1-15).
Authentication: Select the authentication method for RIP communication on the interface.
None: Select this option to have no authentication of RIP communication on the interface.
MD5 Keys: Select this option to use Message Digest version 5 (MD5) authentication. You can enter up to two keys and key IDs. The key can have up to 16 characters and a key ID between 0-255.
Password: Select this option to use password authentication. Enter a password of up to 8 characters.
Passive Mode: Select this option to have the interface receive but not transmit RIP packets.
Incoming Route Map Filter: Select a route map that defines the routes to be learned by RIP.
Outgoing Route Map Filter: Select a route map that defines the routes to be advertised by RIP.
Split Horizon: Select Enabled without poison reverse to cause routes learned from a neighbor to not be advertised back to the same neighbor. Select Enabled with poison reverse to cause routes that are learned from a neighbor to be advertised back to the same neighbor with a metric of 16. Select Disabled to disable split-horizon.
Static Neighbor IP: Select this button to configure the IP address of a RIP neighbor on this interface. See Static RIP Neighbor.
Click Apply to save the settings.
