Mapped IP Address List

A mapped IP (MIP) is a direct one-to-one mapping of traffic destined from one IP address to another IP address. You can create MIP addresses for tunnel interfaces and any interface in the Untrust zone.

As opposed to Dynamic IP (DIP) which translates the source IP address in an IP packet header to a randomly chosen address from a DIP pool, MIP maps the destination IP address in an IP packet header to another static IP address.

MIPs allow inbound traffic to reach private addresses in a zone whose interface is in NAT mode.

For more information on mapped IPs, refer to the NetScreen Concepts & Examples ScreenOS Reference Guide available on the documentation CD that shipped with your device and also on the Juniper Networks documentation site.

Mapped IP List

At the top of the Interface MIP list page, you can see the interface to which the mapped IPs in the list belong. For example, you see:

Interface: ethernet3/2 (IP/Netmask: 209.122.17.1/24)

The table lists all mapped IPs belonging to the interface that is indicated at top and also contains the following information on each mapped IP:

Mapped IP/Netmask: Indicates the public IP address that receives inbound traffic that is then redirected to a host with a private IP address, and the subnet mask of the public IP address.

Host IP: Indicates the private IP address of the host to receive traffic mapped from the public IP address.

VRouter: Indicates the name of the virtual router to which the host IP address belongs.

VSYS Name: (For devices that support VSYS only.) Indicates the name of the virtual system the administrator is currently logged on.

Configure: Click Edit to modify the entry, or click Remove to delete it.
