Software and License Keys Update

At the top of the page appears the current ScreenOS version installed on your security device.

Firmware Update

Update the ScreenOS version of your device by downloading the latest firmware release from the Juniper Networks support site to your hard drive or to a local directory, and then using the WebUI to load the new release onto your device.

To Update Your Firmware

  1. Download the image file from the Juniper Networks support site to your hard drive or to a local directory.

  2. Select the Firmware Update option.

  3. Click Browse, navigate to the file location, select the file, then click Open.

  4. Click Apply to load the new firmware onto your security device.

Note: Once the firmware is upgraded, the device reboots. This process takes a few minutes.

License Key Update

Allows you to expand the capabilities of the device without having to upgrade to a different device or system image. You can purchase various keys that either increase the capacity of existing features or enable new features. For example, purchase a virtual system key to add more virtual systems on your device.

Typically, you get the license key via e-mail and save it to your hard drive as a .txt file or to a local area network.  You can then update the license key using the steps in the following section.

To Update the License Key

  1. Select the License Key Update option.

  2. Click Browse, navigate to the file location, select the file, then click Open.

  3. Click Apply. This process takes a few minutes.

The next time you log on, the new license appears in the License Information box.

Image Key Update

Signs all ScreenOS image files with a digital signature. Juniper Networks digital signature guarantees the authenticity and integrity of the firmware you download and use on your security device. You need an image key to be able to download new images to your device. By default, your device comes with an image key already installed.

This function is only useful when you need to load a new image key; for example, if the signature key is compromised and Juniper sends you a new image key.

To Update the Image Key

  1. Select the Image Key Update option.

  2. Click Browse, navigate to the location of the image key file, select the file, then click Open.

  1. Click Apply to load the image key onto your device.

Retrieve Subscriptions Now

Retrieves service subscriptions from a subscription server. Such services may include antivirus (AV) patterns, Deep Inspection (DI) signatures, anti-spam, or Web filtering. To activate your purchased service account, you need to register your device before clicking this button. You must purchase a subscription, register the subscription, and retrieve the subscription key. Retrieving the subscription key activates your services on the device for the time period purchased.

For more information on the registration process, refer to the "Registration and Activation of Subscription Services" in the Concepts & Examples ScreenOS Reference Guide Volume 2: Fundamentals.

Retrieve Trial Keys Now

Retrieves trial subscription services for AV, DI, anti-spam, or Web filtering. You must get a trial license key for the subscription you want to trial and the device on which you want to run it on. Typically, trial keys work for 30 days from the time they are generated. Refer to the Concepts & Examples ScreenOS Reference Guide Volume 2: Fundamentals for more details on obtaining trial license keys.

Each device can trial a specific content security subscription one time only in 12 months. However, you may trial more than one type of subscription on a single device within a single year.

If you purchased a content security subscription and the subscription is still active, then you cannot trial that subscription.
