Antivirus File Extension List

Note: This feature is supported for only internal antivirus (AV) scanning.

The security device uses file extensions to determine which files undergo AV scanning for a specific protocol.

The table lists the following information on AV File Extension Lists:

Name: Identifies the name of the File Extension List.

Configuration: Click Edit to modify an existing Extension List or Remove to delete an existing Extension List.

Click New to create a new File Extension List.

Assign the File Extension List to a Protocol

After you create a file extension list, assign the list to a protocol. The Protocol configuration determines if AV scanning occurs. Each protocol has an Include Extension List and an Exclude Extension List. When a message's file extension is in the Include Extension List, the message is scanned. If the message's file extension is in the Exclude Extension List, the message is not scanned.

If the message's file extension does not appear in either list, the scanning decision depends on the default file extensions specified in the scan engine database which are tagged read-only. Use the CLI command (get av scan-mgr) to view the default file extensions listed in the scan engine database.

To assign the file extension list to a protocol

To include or exclude the file extension list for a protocol:

  1. Select Screening > Antivirus > Profile.

  2. Select the Profile to edit.

  3. Select the Protocol.

  4. Select the File Extension List to Include or Exclude.
